It holds the distinction that the Basque Government grants to the most outstanding groups in the Basque University System.<\/p>\n<p>Its main objective is to contribute to a better understanding of modern society, something that can only be achieved through constant theoretical and methodological renewal of research procedures.<\/p>\n<p>It is an outgrowth of historiography but draws on the rest of the humanities and social sciences.
