Irene Barañano Díaz
After studying Translation and Journalism and the Master of Multimedia Communication at the UPV/EHU, I am currently a PhD researcher in the Social Communication program of that same university. I research in the field of Critical Animal (& Media) Studies and in the area of animal ethics.
In my doctoral project I research how the media have represented the group of activists for animal liberation through the analysis of the media and through oral history, all of this, in the framework of the Spanish State from 1982 to 2011. I’m carrying out this research as a member of the Experiencia Moderna research group (UPV/EHU).
I am also a founding member and part of the academic group Animalia IkasketaKritikoak, and I am an active part of the anti-speciesist and grassroots activism groups Animalistak and Piztiak.
