Another past is possible

Experiencia moderna is a research group of the Contemporary History Department of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). It holds the distinction that the Basque Government grants to the most outstanding groups in the Basque University System.
Its main objective is to contribute to a better understanding of modern society, something that can only be achieved through constant theoretical and methodological renewal of research procedures.
It is an outgrowth of historiography but draws on the rest of the humanities and social sciences. As such, its components include an amalgam of disciplines and a multiplicity of viewpoints that permeate all of its work.
The group has made important contributions to studies of gender, discourses, bodies and memory, and has been pioneering in the fields of oral history, the emotions and masculinities.
Dabilen harriari ez lizun,
ez hauts ta ez goroldio…
Entzunak esan, esanak entzun,
ahoz-ahoak zer dio?
Zauri ta gerra, traizio, gezur,
gorroto ta amodio…
Letra larrien Historia bat,
mila hitzezko istorio.
Fragment of the bertso (poem) by Maialen Lujanbio on the occasion of the 4th International Seminar:
New approaches in Oral History: ‘Remembering the Future’, Bilbao, 2018
