10TH INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR: DISSENT IN HISTORICAL TIME
Bizkaia Aretoa-EHU, Baroja Bilbao, 8 – 9 June
The seminar aims to rethink historical time beyond its linear conception—as progress or transition—by exploring the coexistence of multiple temporalities and the ways in which they are experienced, narrated and contested. Through dialogue between different historiographical currents, the seminar will address issues such as the relationship between affect and historical time, the role of revolutions in transforming the experience of time, and the relationship between utopias and time. The papers examine, through specific case studies and theoretical reflections, how the past, present and future are not fixed dimensions, but contested spaces where power relations, languages and social practices come into play. Furthermore, a methodological debate will be opened on what it means to ‘dissent in time’ for the craft of historiography, with the aim of moving towards a theory of historical time that is useful and operational for contemporary research.
