Júlia Roura Giró

Júlia Roura Giró - Experiencia ModernaI have a degree in History from the University of Barcelona and have completed the Inter-University Master’s Degree in Contemporary History at the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. I am currently a PhD student on the PhD programme in Contemporary History at the UPV/EHU, where I am conducting my research with a pre-doctoral grant from the Basque Government, under the supervision of Nerea Aresti and Bakarne Altonaga.

My research focuses on the first third of the 20th century and analyses the construction of anti-fascist political subjectivities in 1930s Europe from a transnational and intersectional perspective. I am interested in examining how gender, class and nation interacted in the formation of female anti-fascist identities, exploring the emotional dimension of politicisation and the possible formation of emotional communities. Furthermore, I analyse how the legitimisation of fascism was linked to specific conceptions of masculinity and how the politicisation of women involved both a critique of the fascist masculine model and the construction of discursive and practical alternatives.
