Ilargi Bengoetxea
With a BA in History from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bengoetxea obtained an interuniversity MA in Contemporary History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She is currently working on her PhD thesis, “Fundamentalist Bidasoa, never again! Violent Identity-building. Practices, Discourses and Resistances in the Alardes of Irún and Hondarribia, 1993-2008”,in the framework of the PhD contemporary history programme of the UPV/EHU, under the supervision of Miren Llona.
In her PhD thesis, Bengoetxea examines the expulsion of the followers of an egalitarian Alarde from the community of the people and the construction of the other through violence, stigmatisation and the emotions. Through this conflict, her intention is to analyse the practices, discourses and resistances that constructed or questioned the social order traversed by gender, nation and class in the Basque Country during the 1990s and the 2000s.
